Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may already be available for anyone who pre-ordered the PlayStation 4 edition. But if you're planning on hopping online and enjoying multiplayer with friends it seems you're out of luck right now.
Both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone are having server issues that are preventing people from playing. Activision acknowledged issues on its official support Twitter on May 20, saying it's investigating an issue but not providing an explanation or timetable for servers' return. /r/ModernWarfare is the developer-supported, community-run subreddit for the Modern Warfare community. It seems that years under Activision's belt haven't prepared them to really nail a Call of Duty launch yet, as players are logging in to Modern Warfare on PlayStation 4 and seeing the 'Connecting to Online Services' message that fails after a few moments. Luckily, if you're not interested in sitting around waiting for nothing to happen, you can choose 'Go Offline' to play the campaign, local co-op, or local multiplayer mode.
Fans aren't exactly pleased that they're already experiencing the yearly Call of Duty tradition.

Almost an hour of disappointment… This is not what we paid for, is it?#ModernWarfare— Kanu Canoe (@CanoeKanu) October 25, 2019
At the time of this post, the servers remain down, but the reason is unclear. The official Activision and Call of Duty social media pages are dark, and the official Activision support page states that online services are still functional for all platforms. The servers may be offline on purpose until the rest of the world can catch up, but that doesn't seem likely.
It looks like right now everyone's just stuck waiting around for the game to work. You really should experience the campaign before diving into the multiplayer mode anyway, but this is really getting silly.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is officially available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25.

This problem isn't just for the two newest titles either. It's affecting nearly all of Activision's games across all platforms including Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled and titles as far back as the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on PlayStation 3.
Users on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC are all dealing with the same problems as Activision works to try and get things back online. The outages seem to have started at around 10am CT and are being labeled as 'connectivity drops.'

Things should be back up and running soon for the bigger games on the list, including Modern Warfare and Warzone. But with this outage impacting so many titles, there might be some delay for players wanting to hop into those lobbies.
